A task app the shop floor actually opens
Legno's teams hand each other work for a specific day. Whoever does it ticks it off, and every task carries its own thread with files and mentions. In the workshop a TV shows the board with a column per person.
The Challenge
Work was handed out verbally and tracked in people's heads. Nothing off the shelf fitted: task tools assume desk workers with laptops, while Legno needed something a person on the floor opens on a phone between two jobs — and something the whole shift can see at a glance.
The Solution
- A day-based task list: work is assigned for a specific date, not to an open-ended backlog
- A thread inside each task, with file attachments and mentions, so the context lives with the work rather than in a chat app
- People grouped into teams, with a per-person view for handing out the day's work
- A board screen built for the workshop TV, one column per person
- Installable from the browser onto a phone's home screen, with push notifications that arrive while the app is closed — no app store review, no separate builds for iOS and Android
- A morning digest that goes out on a schedule
- Personal settings for theme, language and notifications
The Result
The app runs in production at todo.legno.se on Next.js and Supabase. Because it installs from the browser, rolling out a change means deploying — not asking a shift to update an app.
